US hopes to rapidly take over Ukraine - journalist
Press TV has conducted an interview with Deena Stryker, journalist with opednews.com from Philadelphia, about US Secretary of State John Kerry delivering a stern warning to Russia over its activities in eastern Ukraine, saying Washington was preparing for severe economic sanctions against Moscow.
Press TV: Now how do you assess John Kerry’s statement? It came out quite harsh, didn’t it?
Stryker: Yes the statement seems to be getting more and more harsh as the day goes on. I had heard a previous statement and now I am hearing much more forceful language, and a much more forceful tone of voice, but it is really extraordinary that the Ukrainian government forces kill five Ukrainians who are manning a roadblock and Kerry says that Russia is at fault for massing its troops on the border.
It is extraordinary and I think that Kerry seems to believe that the entire world will accept his statement which contradicts the reality that everybody can understand by themselves.
Press TV: And you know Ms. Stryker, the question on many people’s mind at this point is, are we heading towards a war over Ukraine?
Stryker: I do think we are and I think that is why all this is happening. The Kiev government wouldn’t be stating so bluntly we are ready to fight if they didn’t have the green light from Washington and I think that Washington hopes that they can rapidly somehow take over Ukraine and that Russia will allow this to happen. But I think that this is a miscalculation.
Press TV: And speaking about miscalculation Ms. Stryker, I would certainly imagine the American public would not be on board especially after, you know, Iraq and Afghanistan.
Stryker: Exactly, but that does not seem to matter in Washington these days.
