Francois Hollande participates in Armenian Genocide commemoration event in Paris
French President Francois Hollande participated in a commemoration event marking the 99th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide on April 24 at Yerevan Park in Paris, the press service of Armenian Foreign Ministry reports.
French Secretary of State for European Affairs Harlem Désir and Paris mayor Anne Hidalgo were also present at the event.
In his remarks at the ceremony, Mr Hollande said that he will visit Yerevan next year to participate in the Armenian Genocide centennial events.
The French leader also said that he will keep his promise and the French government will find a solid legal mechanism enabling to criminalize the denial of the Armenian Genocide.
The Armenian Genocide was recognized by Uruguay, Russia, France, Lithuania, the Italian Chamber of Deputies, majority of U.S. states, parliaments of Greece, Cyprus, Argentina, Belgium and Wales, National Council of Switzerland, Chamber of Commons of Canada, Polish Sejm, Vatican, European Parliament and the World Council of Churches.
