SOS Sevan: Environmentalists stage protest outside parliament
Today a group of Armenian environmentalists staged a protest outside the parliament. The protest was against the amendments to the Law on Lake Sevan which envisage increasing the amount of water taken from Sevan to 320 million cubic meters.
The change is planned to be made within 5 years. By 2019, it is planned to build a number of reservoirs to solve the problem of irrigation.
Environmentalists demand that the draft law should be withdrawn, claiming that there is no need to take an additional amount of water from the lake.
