Arabist: Assad will get majority of votes in elections
The Syrian presidential elections and the votes of electors are very important for Bashar al-Assad in the respect of showing his legitimacy as Syria’s President, Arabist Sargis Grigoryan told reporters in Yerevan.
According to Grigoryan, most of experts think that the voter turnout will be high in government-controlled areas and that the incumbent President will get the majority of votes.
The expert noted that the military operations intensify and involve more areas in Syria as the presidential elections approach: fighting is underway in the south of the country, in the central regions bordering with Lebanon, in the north of Latakia as well as in Idlib and Aleppo.
He also said that the Syrian conflict has turned into a war between government forces and Islamist extremist groups and both Syria and the entire Middle East region will be destroyed if the extremist groups win the war.
