Azerbaijani Caucasus Muslim Board states that artificial insemination by unmarried individuals is a sin
Artificial insemination by individuals who are not married is a sin, notes the statement issued by the Caucasus Muslim Board of Azerbaijan (CMB). In particular, CMB opposes the donation by the people who are not married, calling it a “sin”. As it is stated by the Azerbaijani new agency Trend, the statement was posted on CMB website on Thursday.
In connection with the article of the chairman of the parliamentary committee on social policy of Azerbaijan Hadi Radjabli published in newspaper Sherg, CMB reports that in accordance with Islamic law, a man has a right to impregnate only his wife and the children born in this war enjoy all rights. While the children born by a woman as a result of artificial insemination from a man who is not married to her are considered sinful and coined as “Haramzade” and in accordance to Sharia norms they have no rights of inheritance.
The statement reads that this is the univocal opinion of CMB and that they protest against the dissemination of information about CMB’s alleged positive view of the issue. CMB opinion was submitted to the appropriate committee of the Azerbaijani Parliament during the debate of the bill on reproductive health and family planning in December 2012. The letter is posted in the website of CMB.
The statement notes that the proposed bill says that the families that haven’t had children for the past 10 years will be offered by the state to conduct artificial insemination for free. CMB hopes that any points contradicting the national mentality and Islamic norms will be excluded from the issue.
The statement further emphasizes that the donation by unmarried people is a sin and expresses a hope that this bill will not be tabled in the parliament of Azerbaijan and will not be accepted.
