Francois Hollande: I want Armenia to be fully associated with EU
Armenia is in a unique geopolitical situation and therefore it decided to continue deepening its relations with Russia, French President Francois Hollande said at a joint press conference with Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan, in response to a question of a French journalist.
“My aim is not to criticize, but to understand. Therefore, during my visit, I tried to understand Armenia’s position and the possible reaction of the European Union. I want Armenia to be fully associated with the European Union as Armenia is striving for this, this is consonant with Armenia’s values and interests,” Mr Hollande noted.
Meanwhile, the French leader said that he does not want to force Armenia to sever its economic ties with Russia.
“Armenia’s stance should be supported and encouraged by the European Union and the European Union should understand that Armenia lives in unique conditions and needs to get involved in a process leading to integration to the European Union,” Francois Hollande stressed.
