Serzh Sargsyan: It would be desirable if there were a special offer of Association Agreement for Armenia
“We have a friendship agreement with Russia, we share a common security system, besides, the Customs Union gives certain advantages to its member states, for instance, it gives Armenia the possibility to import energy carriers at competitive prices, which enables us to have competitive goods. This is the motivation of our decision,” Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan said at a joint press conference with French President Francois Hollande while responding to a question of a French journalist about his stance on Armenia’s entry into the Customs Union.
According to Serzh Sargsyan, Armenian-Russian friendly relations are based on centuries-old friendship and the Armenian and Russian peoples have long lived in one state and are linked by culture and economic ties.
Serzh Sargsyan said at the same time that accession to the Customs Union does not mean that Armenia stops its cooperation with the European Union.
“It would be desirable if there were a special offer of Association Agreement for Armenia. So, we continue to deepen our relations with the European Union as it will enable us not only to return to our roots, but also to quickly implement reforms in the country,” the President stressed.
