'It seems that now there is an opportunity to begin real negotiations on the settlement processes in South Caucasus'
"Mediators will work over the organization of new meetings between the presidents of Armenia and Azerbaijan. It seems that now there is an opportunity to begin real negotiations on the settlement processes in the South Caucasus," OSCE Secretary General Lamberto Zannier reported the Azerbaijani news agency "Turan."
He expressed hope that the "new efforts" will help to promote the peace talks on the Karabakh conflict settlement. Zannier told Turan that the Minsk Group will be "pushing for more dialog and more contacts between the presidents of Azerbaijan and Armenia.
Lamberto Zannier, the OSCE Secretary General, said, as the world focuses its attention on Russia's aggression in Ukraine over the past few months, it is worth reflecting on the Caucasus region at a moment as well, to prevent it from possible escalation of the territorial.
"Though Caucasus is being quite at the moment,” he said noting that alertness is seen in the self-determination talks.
As Turan notes, Zannier, who 3 days ago got re-appointed as OSCE Secretary General for another three years, currently is visiting Washington DC to discuss the unfolding crisis in Ukraine.
