US not willing to leave Afghanistan – analyst
Press TV has conducted an interview with Rodney Martin, former US congressional staffer from Los Angeles, about US President Barack Obama saying his country’s longest war will be over by the end of the year but adding Washington will likely maintain its military presence in the war-weary nation.
Press TV: Now Obama says that 2014 will be the year when the war in Afghanistan will be over. Will it really be over?
Martin: Well you might recall President Obama also said he would close the military prison at Guantanamo as well. President Obama is long on talk, short on action. We shall see. There are two presidential candidates that want the US troops to remain to prop up the puppet regime in Kabul so we shall see.
The United States has stayed longer in Afghanistan than the Red Army of the Soviet Union. So I am not optimistic. Well we shall see. The President is like I said long on talk, short on action and you have two presidential candidates that want the backing of foreign troops.
Press TV: But also when it comes to talk, the US has shown reluctance in wanting to leave Afghanistan by 2014. We have already seen the Obama administration pressing Hamid Karzai to sign the security pact, which will allow the US forces to remain on Afghan soil beyond 2014.
Martin: Well absolutely. This is all part of a greater scheme that is well-publicized, called Project for New American Century to secure basing rights all through the Middle East, to secure not American interests but Israeli interests and as well as to make sure that the America can bully other nations where they do not have interests such as Iran.
So you are absolutely correct. United States really does not want to leave. This is all basically a bunch of hot air.
Press TV: But Mr. Martin, what has America gained in it’s over decade of occupation of Afghanistan to want to stay and prolong this occupation?
Martin: Well, the US servicemen have gained nothing but misery. We are seeing soldiers who have died on waiting list at the Veterans administration hospitals, you have seen that, but what has happened is these neocons and the Zionists have gained a lot.
They have retained the United States bases and US troops presence in the Middle East in nations where prior, they previously they have not. Previous, prior to 2000 and 2003 there were no US troops in Iraq, there were no US troops in Afghanistan and so that is significant.
This is all part of this grandeur neocon scheme to advance basically Zionist security interest through this Project for a New America Century under the auspices of advancing democracy throughout the Middle East and imposing American hegemony on Arab peoples and it is absolute travesty. It has been horrific on the civilian populations and it has been horrific on the American combat soldiers.
