Azerbaijani officials keep refugees in deplorable conditions in order to show them to foreigners
Representatives of Azerbaijan, both at the level of governmental officials and the expert community and media, often voice the idea that there is still violation of rights of Azerbaijanis who had fled their homes as a result of Karabakh conflict. We are not going to touch the fact that these people have suffered precisely from the aggressive policy of Baku, which, relying on its "power", had violated the truce and continued the war. Now Baku says that by returning these people to their region of birthplace will be regarded as restoration of their rights. In the same time the problem of restoring the rights of the Armenian refugees is ignored by Azerbaijan.
It is noteworthy that it is the Azerbaijani officials who hold the same Azerbaijani IDPs in unbearable conditions ... in order to show them to the foreigners. This was known before as well, but one of the Azerbaijani officials made an appropriate confession.
As the article of Azerbaijan Professor Rafik Aliyev published in the "Vesti.az" news agency stated, he together with high foreign guests had once visited the camp of refugees in Bardinski region.
"I asked one of the responsible official, whether "it was possible to eliminate these problems at a low cost, and these lives of these people will be much better then.” (by that time two-roomed house in the villages cost a little more than 5-6 thousand dollars, and there were people who even offered to build 100 of such houses). The answer shocked me: "Whom then we will have to show as victims?" Aliyev writes.
Rafik Aliyev noted that he referred these words to the ignorance of the official, who, just like many in the Azerbaijani society at that time, were hoping that such terrible conditions in which lived the refugees and the displaced people, could cause compassion of foreign emissaries of different countries and international organizations, and they will take the problem differently and will support the Azerbaijani position "when discussing the solutions of the fate of the occupied regions of Azerbaijan."
