Thousands of children are malnourished in Azerbaijan, some live due to artificial orphans; suicides’ reasons are not known
On the background of the existence of huge natural resources mortality rate among children, especially among newborns in poor families, remains a challenge in Azerbaijan. Every second out of five of these children suffer from anemia, reports the Azerbaijan Institute of Democracy and Human Rights in its report published on the International Children's Day on the state of children's rights, their morbidity and mortality, reads the Azerbaijani news portal “Haqqin.az.”
According to the report, in Azerbaijan there are serious problems concerning the children's diets, which are proved by the existing anemia among them and the short growth inappropriate to their age. Each of these factors affects the mental development of children and their morbidity. Each of the 4 children is short.
"About 10,000 children live in child care centres. Although they are considered to be lonely, they have one or even two parents," the article reads.
It is noted that in Azerbaijan, most of the women up to 50 years marry at an early age, some in 13-14 years. This is dangerous for the health of the unborn children and their social life.
According to the report, only a quarter of children with disabilities are educated in Azerbaijan. 7750 children received homeschooling in 2009-2010, 156 - in secondary schools, 5925 - in specialized schools. 4 of every 5 children gain less than 300 points in the entrance exams.
Institute of Democracy and Human Rights notes that about 300 children fall ill with oncological diseases every year in Azerbaijan, and only 80% of them recover.
Among oncological diseases embryological tumor is prior as it appears sometime after birth.
"That is, the oncological diseases of children, unlike the adults, begin developing in the maternal womb and appear among 3 to 10 years old children," the article reads.
It is also noted that there are no statistical researches carried out in Azerbaijan on the causes of children’s deaths in case of accidents and suicides. It is only know that in 2004, 35 children have committed suicide; however the causes of these suicides are not disclosed.
Azerbaijani media reported, that since in January 2014 at least 122 people committed suicide in Azerbaijan. 16 cases of suicide among children under the age of 18 is also recorded. In 2013, 26 cases of children’s suicide under 18 have been registered, and in 2012 - 38 cases.
