Newly elected Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has ordered the heads of law enforcement structures in the country to form a humanitarian corridor for civilians that want to leave the areas where the special operation is ongoing, Ukraine’s presidential press service said Tuesday, according to RIA Novosti.

“In order to avoid new victims in the areas where the special operation is carried out, the Ukrainian president has ordered the heads of law enforcement structures to create all necessary conditions for the civilians who want to leave,” according to the press service.

Poroshenko has ordered the government to organize transportation and medical care for civilians, as well as a network of portable stations providing civilians with drinking water, food and medicine. Local government administrations and the Cabinet of Ministers are to work together to accommodate people coming from the areas of the special operation.

Earlier, Russia circulated a draft UN Security Council resolution urging a stop to the violence in the east of Ukraine and the establishment of humanitarian corridors to allow civilians to leave the territory of the military operation.

Kiev’s interim government launched a special operation in mid-April against independence supporters in the southeast of Ukraine. The operation has already led to numerous casualties, including civilians.

Moscow has repeatedly called the operation "punitive" and urged for a de-escalation to the crisis.
