Confrontation between inter-power groups in Azerbaijan has intensified ahead of parliamentary elections
Confrontation between the two inter-power groups in Azerbaijan - Nakhijevan clan and the clan of Pashayevs’ – has intensified ahead of parliamentary elections to be held in 2015, a governmental source told the Azerbaijani newspaper "Azadlig."
According to the source, the two groups are seriously engaged in preparations of seizure of control in the parliament. "The Azerbaijani authorities are currently under geopolitical pressure. President Ilham Aliyev has to make a choice between the West and Russia. This process is inevitable and it is impossible to evade it. The authorities no longer have the ability to maneuver. Both of the sides require Aliyev’s final position," the source reports.
According to the source, the refusal of choice promises nothing good to the Azerbaijani authorities. This situation is well understood by the inter-power groups. The source also noted that the intensification of the struggle for the Prime Minister’s position was also associated with this issue. The Pashayevs and Nakhijevanis want to play a leading role in these processes.
