"Our embassy in Azerbaijan has engaged in the issue after the event received wide interest. We have received many questions from media, and when it comes to a citizen of Georgia, especially a Parliament member, the Georgian Embassy and Consular Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs must clear the situation out. In this regard, the consul and vice-consul left for Azerbaijan to find out what are the grounds of the rumors," Panjikidze stated.
Yesterday, Georgian MPs from the "United National Movement" (UNM) party, Irma Nadirashvili and Zurab Japaridze, were detained at Baku airport. They were caught in transportation of undeclared currencies.

According to him, one of the Vice-Ministers of the Foreign Affairs of Georgia by the order of Panjikidze called embassy in Baku in Georgia and informed that they had received credible information from the Interior Ministry that the deputies in Georgia import large sum of money. Ambassador was given assignment to take urgent measures to catch them in action to their way to airport in Baku. "The fact that without the prior consent with our embassy no searches of a person holding a diplomatic passport, or status could happen, understand all reasonable people who think logically," he said.
Sulashvili notes that the ambassador had got in touch with relevant services and had reported that two Georgian citizens, who had diplomatic passports, transported to Georgia substantial sum of money and possibly weapons evading customs. "The authorities of Georgia are informed about it, and their detention for this crime will not turn into a diplomatic scandal on our side, on the contrary, we will be happy, and will contribute to this," according Sulashvili said the ambassador.
However, according to the source, the deputies found nothing. A few hours later Panjikidze called the ambassador and told him "to find a way out", otherwise he will lose his job, the source said.
