Russia willing to make contribution to normalization of Armenian-Turkish relations - Lavrov
Russia can and tries to do everything possible to assist in the normalization of Armenian-Turkish relations, Armenian Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian told a joint press conference with visiting Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, in response to a question from a Russian journalist about possible assistance from Russia in normalizing relations with Turkey.
Mr Nalbandian noted that Sergey Lavrov was present at the signing of the Armenian-Turkish Protocols in Zurich in October 2009, which is also a sign of Russia’s assistance in the normalization of Armenian-Turkish relations.
“Russia as well as the other countries supporting the process expressed their position in numerous statements, saying that the Armenian-Turkish Protocols must be ratified without preconditions,” Nalbandian said.
Sergey Lavrov stressed for his part that Russia supports the normalization of relations between Yerevan and Ankara and that before and after the signing of the Protocols, Russia has expressed its willingness to make a contribution to the normalization process.
