Junior sergeant Armen Hovhannisyan, who was killed while defending the Karabakh border on January 19, would have turned 20 today.
Before being called up for military service, Armen studied at Yerevan State College of Culture and was going to continue his studies after being demobilized. He worked at a furniture factory and was engaged in sculpture.
By a decree of Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan, Armen Hovhannisyan was posthumously awarded First Class Medal for Services to the Homeland.
Armen Hovhannisyan would be demobilized in these days if he were alive.
On January 19, from around 11:50 pm to 00:15 am, Azeri units tried to infiltrate Armenian positions in northeastern and southeastern sections of the contact line of Karabakh and Azeri troops. The frontline units of the NKR Defense Army fought back the incursion in both directions and threw back the enemy, causing considerable material and human losses.
