Isis caliphate can dictate new rules of game – expert
On June 29, Islamist militant group Isis said it is establishing a caliphate, or Islamic state, on the territories it controls in Iraq and Syria. This organization is a powerful one and it can dictate new rules of game and throw down a challenge to the current order, Arabist Sargis Grigoryan told reporters in Yerevan, adding that the newly created organization can pose a serious danger to religious and ethnic minorities.
Regarding Turkey’s position on Isis, the expert noted that Isis began its activities on the territories bordering with Turkey from mid-2013, but Ankara took no actions against it.
“It is a serious challenge to Turkey since that extremist Islamist organization has repeatedly said that the policy of Turkish government contradicts its policy. However, there were only statements and no action. This is evidence of some cooperation,” the expert said.
He stressed that from those border territories Turkey supplies financial and military aid to opposition forces in Syria.
