Will there be progress in Armenian-Turkish normalization?
Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan will win in the first round of the presidential elections on August 10, Turkish studies expert Hakob Chakryan told reporters in Yerevan.
According to the expert, Erdogan’s election as President will be the least of all evils in terms of country’s stability.
“Erdogan will be a strong President, meaning that the Prime Minister will be weak,” he said.
As for whether there will be any progress in Armenian-Turkish normalization in case Erdogan becomes President, Chakryan said, “Turkey’s policy in this issue will not change even in the event of change of power.”
The expert stressed that normalization of relations with Armenia is not a priority for Turkey now since tensions are high in Iraq and Syria and besides, there are preconditions for the formation of a Kurdish state.
