Azerbaijani Defense Minister forbids soldiers to fast and perform namaz
Azerbaijani Defense Minister Zakir Hasanov banned the soldiers who are in military service to fast. Earlier Azerbaijani soldiers were also forbidden to perform Namaz, reports Azerbaijani portal "Minval.az."
According to information on behalf of the Ministry of Defense of Azerbaijan soldiers are banned of fasting in the military units since the beginning of the Ramadan month. The fact was confirmed by the Azerbaijani soldiers who had completed military service a few days ago.
According to them, the commanders of the military units assembled the soldiers who wanted to start fasting and instructed not to keep the religious cults during the military service. "Some of our comrades tried to fast, but they were not banned by the commanders of military units and detachments. They were told that the Ministry was given a special assignment prohibiting namaz and fasting," noted the dismissed soldiers.
Press service of the Ministry of Defense of Azerbaijan, despite the posted request, has not yet commented on the given information.
As it was reported, Namaz has previously also been banned at military units. The Defense Ministry of Azerbaijan said on this regard that according to the law on "Status of the military personnel" the religious beliefs do not exempt soldiers from military service obligations.
