Armenia’s accession to EaEU protracted for technical reasons, expert says
Armenia’s entry into the Eurasian Economic Union (EaEU) is protracted for technical reasons, not due to geopolitical or political problems, political scientist, deputy director of the Caucasus Institute Sergey Minasyan told a press conference Tuesday.
According to the expert, the EaEU was formed recently: the treaty on its creation was signed about a month ago and it will come into effect on January 1, 2015.
“Another reason for the delay is that the three founding states of the EaEU have serious problems with each other and Belarus and Kazakhstan use Armenia to gain more advantageous conditions in their negotiations with Russia,” Minasyan said.
The expert believes that progress in Armenia’s EaEU accession process is expected in the fall and besides, there will be some developments in Armenia-EU relations between October and November.
