Today is World Day of Civil Aviation Flight Attendants
Representatives of one of the most romantic professions in the world – civil aviation flight attendants also known as stewards and stewardesses celebrate their professional holiday today.
This profession is over 80 year old. It is believed that the first flight attendants were in Germany in 1928, when special people – stewards were hired by air companies to ensure comfort of passengers during flights. Formerly, this was the duty of co-pilots.
The first flight attendants were men: often waiters from luxurious restaurants became stewards. However, back in 1930, the idea to involve women emerged in the USA. It was planned to become an additional advertisement of air companies. Women had another advantage – they weighted less and it was important for aircrafts of that time.
These days, the main requirements for flight attendants are image (speech, mimics, makeup, attractiveness), strong character, skills and abilities.
The main duty of a modern flight attendant is to ensure safety of passengers during the flight and help them feel comfortable.
