‘Pope seeking to save church’s reputation over abuse\'
Press TV has interviewed political commentator Randy Short to talk about the issue of pedophilia in the Catholic Church, after Pope Francis recently condemned child sex abuse as “leprosy” within the religious body.
Press TV: On the issue of priestly celibacy, many are pointing out that the pope is trying to get to the core of the matter here. How do you view it?
Short: Well, the church has lost billions of dollars. There have been studies where significant numbers, about three or four percent of priests are known to have sexual problems and this is not just within the Catholic Church. You have got Yeshiva University in New York that faced a 680 million-dollar suit by different people class action. This is throughout a lot of religions, but back to Catholic Church. They have lost billions of dollars and ironically, what is insulting to me is that if they have raped and molested people all over Europe and America where people have access to lawyers, what have they done in Africa, Latin America and Asia where they haven’t even begun to address the mass molestation of children there?
So this is a face-saving move. I don’t think it is simple because the church, by having the priests and nuns take vows of celibacy, they can keep the resources that the priests and nuns earn. That is a money-making scheme.
There is nothing in the bible that says that you have to go without sex and clearly, these people are not doing very well without it.
Secondly, we have a society that is influenced by the study done by Alfred Kinsey. He is the pedophile racist that did the studies where he began to work with legal systems across the world and United States to legitimize pedophilia or at least reduce criminal punishment. So, while he’s doing one thing, there are literally movements within the United States and Europe to legitimize pedophilia. So we have got two things going at the same time and I think really, it is a face-saving gesture. There really is no way that this Pope can do that and let us pray that he doesn’t prematurely leave the position that he has as other Popes that try to do reforms and resist it by people who have gay and financial agenda that are contrary that the gospel that the church says it is preaching.
Press TV: Well then, would you say that even though the pope has made this comment about revisiting priestly celibacy it is not really going to go further down and deeper as far as reforms go, because there is more than just religious traditions involved here. There are bigger players that have interests invested in this.
Short: Well, yes. The former Pope who was a Hitler Youth, he’s guilty. In fact, he spent his earlier career covering up the mass molestation of children. I mean the infrastructure in terms of human resources of the Vatican is full of pederasts and others.
How in the world will they convict themselves no more than say, the United States or former Nazi Germany, or for that matter the Jewish state of Israel would call itself into question over how it treats Palestinians or America treats African Americans or Nazi Germany treated persecuted Jews.
