OSCE urges all parties to Nagorno Karabakh conflict to abstain from deliberate targeting of villages and civilians
The OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs on the Nagorno Karabakh conflict settlement process Igor Popov (Russia), James Warlick (US) Pierre Andrieu (France) made a joint statement in which they expressed their serious concern about the increased tension and casualties among the civilians. The statement is posted on the OSCE website http://www.osce.org/mg/121674.
They urged the parties to commit themselves to avoiding casualties and reject the deliberate targeting of villages and the civilian population. The Co-Chairs also called on the Foreign Ministers to defuse tensions and adhere to the terms of the ceasefire.
It is also noted in the statement that the Co-Chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group and Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Armenia and Azerbaijan have discussed the agenda for a possible presidential summit, underscoring the importance of a meeting between the Presidents of Armenia and Azerbaijan for achieving progress in peace negotiations.
They also have discussed meetings which could take place in New York on the margins of the UN General Assembly, the statement reads.
“The Co-Chairs continue to review possible security confidence building measures and people-to-people programs with the parties. They believe that such programs build the trust and confidence necessary for a lasting peace,” states the announcement.
Also, the OSCE US Co-Chair James Warlick made a note on his twitter page saying, that “Nagorno-Karabakh settlement should be a priority, even with many global concerns.”
The OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs held separate meetings in Brussels with the heads of the MFA of Armenia and Azerbaijan. The Personal Representative of the OSCE Chairperson-in-Office, Ambassador Andrzej Kasprzyk, also participated in the meetings.
