Richard Morningstar: US is concerned about losses of life on line of contact in Nagorno Karabakh conflict
Tragic losses and any tensions occurring on the line of contact in the Nagorno Karabakh conflict zone raise grave concern, the US Ambassador to Azerbaijan Richard Morningstar said in his speech on the occasion of the completion of his diplomatic mission, Azerbaijani information agency “Trend” reports.
“New attempts are needed for finding a settlement to the Nagorno Karabakh conflict once and for all,” he said.
According to him, the Co-Chairs of the Minsk Group are also very concerned with the hostilities taking place along the line of contact and “this once again comes to show that this terrible conflict must be resolved within a shortest period of time”.
Morningstar stressed that the US will continue working towards the resolution of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict.
He also noted that Azerbaijan and the US have different approaches towards certain issues but it is important to have a continuous dialogue with each partner.
On Wednesday the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs on the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict settlement process Igor Popov (Russia), James Warlick (US) Pierre Andrieu (France) made a joint statement in which they expressed their serious concern about the increased tension and casualties among the civilians. They urged the parties to commit themselves to avoiding casualties and reject the deliberate targeting of villages and the civilian population. The Co-Chairs also called on the Foreign Ministers to defuse tensions and adhere to the terms of the ceasefire.
