According to the report of the Group of Experts on Action against Trafficking in Human Beings of the Council of Europe (GRETA) Armenia has recorded success in a number of directions in the fight against trafficking and is ahead of Azerbaijan, reports the article published on antitrafficking.am website.
In the paragraph on “training relevant specialists” the expert group against trafficking called for the government of Azerbaijan to take up measures towards improving the level of knowledge of the police, the prosecutors and judges as well as the relevant specialists on trafficking and on the rights of the victims of trafficking, reads the article.
It is noteworthy that in the paragraph “Non-punishment of victims of trafficking” the CoE expert group has no remarks for Armenia while it demands that the Azerbaijani authorities abide by the requirements of the 26th article of the Convention.
Moreover, in the paragraph “Protection of victims and witnesses” there are, likewise, no remarks for the Armenian government. Regarding this paragraph the expert group calls for the Azerbaijani government to take measures to protect the victims and the witnesses of trafficking, especially the children, says the publication.
In the comparative study the recommendations presented to Armenia are more generalized (“continue doing”, “continue improving”, etc.) while the remarks made for Azerbaijan are more specific – the expert group recommends the government of Azerbaijan to strengthen the cooperation with non-governmental organizations and the civil society as well as to cooperate with them in the fight against trafficking.
Azerbaijan is also required to carry out works for assisting the victims of trafficking.
