Leyla Yunus: I understand very distinctly, they will torture us with Arif to death brutally
Azerbaijani political analyst Arif Yunus, who was held in custody of the Prison Service of Ministry of Justice of Azerbaijan, was moved to the detention center of DHS, reads the statement of the human rights activist Leyla Yunus circulated through the social network Facebook, reports the Azerbaijani news portal "Minval.az".
"I am engaged in the political prisoners’ problems for too long time and I know very well about the tortures implemented in the DHS. I realize that they have decided to destroy our family physically - Arif and me," said the human rights activist.
According to her, in 2005 - after the murder of the journalist Elmar Huseynov, she was warned she will be murdered too: "Of course, I was scared. But apparently, the decision to kill me was canceled - we made this information available for everyone. But today, in 2014, the bloody tyranny in Azerbaijan has no bounds. I understand very distinctly: They will torture us brutally with Arif to death."
In her statement, Yunus called on her followers to talk about it: "Let everybody hear and know what kind of bloody tyranny reigns in Azerbaijan – a country which presides in the Council of Europe."
On August 5 Nasimi District Court of Baku signed a decree to arrest the head of the Institute for Peace and Democracy Arif Yunus for 3 months. Human rights activist Leyla Yunus was arrested on 30 July in her house yard. She was charged with state treason, tax evasion, illegal entrepreneurship, falsification of documents and large-scale fraud. Charges of state treason and large-scale fraud were also brought against her husband Arif Yunusov. Based on these charges the court arrested Yunus for three months.
