Trial in case of businessman Levon Hayrapetyan begins
The trial in the case of renowned Armenian businessman and benefactor Levon Hayrapetyan opened on Wednesday, August 13, in the Moscow City Court, according to the Facebook page of the initiative in support of Levon Hayrapetyan.
The Federal Security Service (FSB) of Russia arrested Levon Hayrapetyan, one of the wealthiest representatives of the Armenian Diaspora in the world on July 15. The arrest took place as part of an ongoing investigation conducted by the Russian Investigatory Committee into the activities of one of the local criminal groups. The Investigation Committee of Russia brought charges against Levon Hayrapetyan for misappropriation (Article 160) and money laundering (Article 174). Investigators suspect that Hayrapetyan was involved in the 2009 sale of Bashneft by U. Rakhimov to Sistema Company.
