Armenia to apply to ECHR over captive Karen Petrosyan
Armenia’s Commission for Prisoners of War, Hostages and Missing Persons plans to apply to international instances, including the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR), over 31-year-old Armenian citizen Karen Petrosyan who died while being held captive in Azerbaijan, member of the commission Zaruhi Hakobyan told a press conference on Thursday.
Karen Petrosyan, a resident of Chinari village, Tavush province of Armenia, was taken captive on August 7 and on the next day Azerbaijan reported that the captive died from “a heart failure.”
Mrs Hakobyan said that talks over the repatriation of the Armenian captive’s body are underway, but the Azerbaijani side deliberately protracts the process so as to make it impossible to determine the cause of the captive’s death.
She stressed that Karen Petrosyan had no health problems and he died after being tortured.
