Iranian official: Fatherland of polo is Iran and it’s rascality of UNESCO’s to register it as Azerbaijani game
“Fatherland of the game polo is Iran it is rascality of UNESCO’s to register it as Azerbaijani game,” has stated Hamze Ilkhanizade, the chairman of the Iranian polo federation, to the Iranian IRNA news agency.
In spite the numerous official complaints of Iran the Azerbaijani side managed to register polo as an Azerbaijani game in the list of the non-material heritage of UNESCO last year.
The chairman of the Iranian polo federation has touched upon the claims of Azerbaijan saying that Polo is their national sport-game. He has noted in particular, “A country which has no polo, cannot have claims on that game. Thus the claims of Azerbaijan ae wrong and far from being true.”
The current Mayor of Isfahan Sayed Mortaza Saghaeian Nejad has touched upon the Polo problem and has noted, “Polo is an Iranian cultural heritage and its fatherland is Iran. The International Federation of Polo has confessed that UNESCO has been mistaken by referring Polo to Azerbaijan. We undertake serious steps in order to reregister the game polo at the ICCN as an Iranian game.”
