Ex-minister’s son gets 4.5 years in prison
David Vardanyan, the son of Armenia’s former Minister of Sport and Youth Affairs, currently Armenia’s Ambassador to Georgia Yuri Vardanyan, was sentenced to 4 years and 6 months in prison by the General Jurisdiction Court of Syunik province of Armenia on drug smuggling charges.
Speaking to Panorama.am, David Vardanyan’s lawyer, Vahan Hayrapetyan, said that he is displeased with the trial.
“The verdict was severe. I did not expect such a verdict,” he said.
Asked if they are going to appeal the verdict, the lawyer replied, “I am in no mood for discussing anything now.”
