Mamikon Khojoyan’s family appeals to ECHR
The case of Mamikon Khojoyan, 77-year-old Armenian villager who died more than two months after being released from Azerbaijani captivity, has been sent to the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR).
His three children filed the lawsuit with support from Against Legal Arbitrariness NGO and the European Human Rights Advocacy Centre, reports the press service of the NGO.
Khojoyan’s family demands prosecution of Azerbaijan’s government under articles 2, 3, 5, 13 and 14 of the European Convention on Human Rights, which prohibit killing, torture, inhumane treatment and discrimination. Also, they call on to hear similar cases of civilians tortured in Azerbaijan, including those of Arthur Badalyan and Karen Petrosyan.
The European Court of Human Rights is expected to examine the suit to determine whether it is admissible and then legal proceedings may begin and a binding decision may be made.
