Armenian President attends Viktor Ambartsumian Prize 2014 award ceremony
Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan attended today the Viktor Ambartsumian International Prize 2014 award ceremony held at Armenia’s National Academy of Sciences (NAS), according to the presidential press service.
The Viktor Ambartsumian International Prize is one of the significant awards in astronomy/astrophysics and related sciences. The prize was instituted in 2009 by Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan. The prize is worth $500,000 and is awarded every two years. Armenian NAS President Radik Martirosyan is the chairman of the Viktor Hambartsumian International Prize Committee.
This year the prize winning scientists are Felix Aharonyan, Igor Karachentsev and Brent Talley. Radik Martirosyan said that the three scientists were selected based on study of all the presented works and opinions of independent reviewers.
President Serzh Sargsyan congratulated the scientists and presented the awards.
