US, other countries to provide Ukraine with non-lethal weapon – Poroshenko
Ukraine will receive non-lethal weapons from the United States and several other countries, which will help the country to strengthen its defense, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko said, according to RIA Novosti.
"We have to get and got everything we need: intelligence, radar, surveillance and other types of defense equipment, which will allow us to increase the effectiveness of our weapons dozens of times, upgrade it and do everything possible to ensure that the efficiency of our weapons is much better and it is not only from the side of the United States, " Poroshenko told Ukrainian TV channels on Sunday evening.
Ukrainian President added that the weaponry is non-lethal and will be used for defense.
The Ukrainian authorities have repeatedly stated about the supply of weapons from abroad, but the alleged distributors denied these reports.
Last week Poroshenko visited the United States, where he also asked for weapons shipments.
Washington said it would allocate $53 million in aid to Ukraine, with $46 million helping strengthen Ukraine's security and $7 million meant for humanitarian aid.
