World Environmental Health Day is celebrated today
The International Federation of Environmental Health has declared 26 September as World Environmental Health Day to be celebrated each year.
The theme for the 2014 World Environmental Health Day is: Addressing Environmental Health Inequalities.
While environmental health may be concerned primarily with the impacts of environmental stressors on health, these in turn are heavily influenced by and frequently reflect economic and social factors. For example those with more economic power are able to purchase safe water, have easier access to more nutritional food or live in housing located well away from obvious emissions from industrial plants. Regarding climate change - ongoing and worsening - the whole World is affected - and it will surely affect environmental health inequalities - if we do nothing.
The challenges in regard to environmental health inequalities differ very much comparing the countries around the Globe. But anyway you can find environmental health inequalities in all contrives - rich or poor. So much is still to be done.
Therefore the IFEH has decided to address Environmental Health Inequalities as this year theme for the World Environmental Health Day 26 September 2014.
