Armenia is ahead of Azerbaijan in index of media freedom of Eastern Partnership countries
As of the first half of 2014, Armenia occupies the fourth place in the Index of Media Freedom of Eastern Partnership countries. The results of the index are published on the site of the EaP Media Freedom Watch.
Georgia is on the first place in the index, Moldova is on second place. Ukraine is on the third place and Azerbaijan and Belarus close the "list".
In the block "Politics", which determines the level of rights and freedoms granted by the constitution and laws of the country, the media and journalists, their conformity with international norms and standards, the presence of the authorities of censorship, etc., Armenia has scored 170 points, Georgia 207 points, Moldova 179, Ukraine 157, Azerbaijan 124, and Belarus 70.
In the block named "Practice" (it defines the state's role in ensuring the rights and freedoms of the media and journalists, the respond of the authorities to the cases of their illegal restriction) Armenia scored 603 points, Georgia 947, Moldova 857, Ukraine 697, Belarus 356, Azerbaijan 344.
In the block of "TV/Radio Broadcast", which determines the level of freedom of broadcasting companies, access to the air, etc., Armenia has scored 65 points, Georgia 119, Moldova 104, Ukraine 91, Azerbaijan 41 and Belarus 26.
The block "Internet and New Media" determines the level of Internet freedom, the ability of access to it. The maximum score is 150 points. In this unit, Armenia has scored 117 points. Moldova gained 144 points, Georgia 136, Ukraine 126, Azerbaijan 51 and Belarus 50.
The quarterly compilation of the survey of media freedom of the Eastern Partnership is a part of the EaP Media Freedom Watch, which is implemented by "Internews-Ukraine" in partnership with non-governmental organizations and five other states of EaP.
