Armenia celebrates Librarian Day
October 7 is the professional holiday of librarians. It coincides with the World Day for Decent Work. The day has been celebrated in Armenia since 2004.
Traditionally, a librarian is associated with collections of books, as demonstrated by the etymology of the word "librarian" (from the Latin liber, "book").
This year also, on the Saturday preceding October 7, Armenia’s Culture Ministry held a traditional event dedicated to the Librarian Day, entitled “Meeting Place – Library.”
A modern librarian may deal with provision and maintenance of information in many formats, including: physical books; electronic resources; magazines; newspapers; audio and video recordings; maps; manuscripts; photographs and other graphic material; bibliographic databases; and web-based and digital resources.
