Montserrat Caballe is back in Artsakh
On October 12, world-famous soprano Montserrat Caballe arrived in Artsakh. On October 14, the singer will give an exclusive concert at Stepanakert Renaissance Square, dedicated to the 20th anniversary of the ceasefire in Artsakh, the NKR Ministry of Culture reports.
She will hold master classes for young opera singers from Artsakh at Stepanakert Sayat Nova musical college. During the visit, she is to meet President Bako Sahakyan and Artsakh’s spiritual leader Archbishop Pargev Martirosyan.
Montserrat Caballe has arrived with her family members, a Spanish tenor and an accompanist.
The visit is organized jointly by the Ministry of Culture and Youth Affairs of NKR and Starmus company.
The general sponsor of the concert is Converse Bank CJSC. It is co-sponsored by Athenas Pallas.
Montserrat Caballe’s first visit to Artsakh was in June 2013. On December 12 of the same year the presentation of Montserrat Caballe’s album “Armenia and Artsakh: The Island of Christianity” took place in Paris. It was there that the famous singer promised to visit Artsakh again. “I return to Artsakh, and this time to sing. I will be celebrating with you the 20th anniversary of ceasefire in your little but strong country. I hope to see you in Stepanakert, meet my old friends in your land and sing for them for peace and prosperity of Artsakh,” wrote Montserrat Caballe in her letter to Artsakh Republic President Bako Sahakyan.
Spanish opera singer Montserrat Caballe was born in 1933 in Barcelona. She is considered to be one of the finest sopranos of the 20th century. Montserrat Caballe was named Honorary Ambassador of UN in 1974 and Ambassador of Peace in 1991. She was designated UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador in 1994.
