Aram I of Catholicosate of Great House of Cilicia leaves for Iran
“Aram I of Catholicosate of Great House of Cilicia leaves for Iran today on 10 days visit,” IRIB news agency of Iran reports.
Aram I Catholicos will conduct meetings with the Iranian Armenians and the representatives of the unions, will visit the churches and will attend the event dedicated to the 350rd anniversary of the St. Savor temple in New Jugha in the city of Isfahan.
The RA PM Hovik Abrahamyan is also going to attend the event on October 21.
Note that there are more than 200 Armenian churches of which the Monastery of Gharaqilisa has been included in the UNESCO’s list of monuments’ preservation by the efforts of Iranian government. Armenian St. Savor’s church located in Isfahan is also planned to be included in that list.
Three dioceses represent the Armenian apostolic church in Iran – Atrapatakan, Tehran and Esfahan. There are 2 Members of Parliament that represent the interests of Armenians in IRI Majlis – Karen Khanlaryan and Robert Beglaryan.
