Armenian Economy Minister receives EBRD official
On October 20, Armenian Minister of Economy Karen Chshmaritian received First Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) Philip D. Bennett, the Ministry of Economy reported.
The meeting was also attended by First Deputy Minister of Economy Garegin Melkonyan, head of Department of Economic Development Policy of the Ministry of Economy Artak Baghdasaryan, head of Investment Policy Department Vahagn Lalayan, EBRD Managing Director for Eastern Europe and the Caucasus Francis Malige, and head of EBRD Yerevan Office Mark Davis.
Welcoming the guests, Minister Karen Chshmaritian highly appreciated long-term effective cooperation between Armenia and EBRD and expressed confidence that in the future there would be opportunities of deeper cooperation in different sectors.
Thanking the Minister for the meeting, EBRD First Vice President Philip D. Bennett noted that the Bank wishes to reaffirm the agenda and further ways of cooperation, due to new developments and realities of Armenia. He also noted that local currency increase access to resources, improvement of municipal infrastructure, and expansion of financial intermediaries in Armenia remain important for EBRD.
Minister Chshmaritian noted that Armenia continues cooperation with the European Union regardless of becoming a member of the Eurasian Economic Union.
The two sides also discussed regional developments, ongoing and planned projects of the Bank in Armenia.
