Venice Commission President proposes including several provisions in concept of constitutional reforms
The provisions included in the concept of constitutional reforms are important not only for Armenia, but also for all countries which are on the path of democratization, Gianni Buquicchio, President of the Venice Commission, said in his opening remarks at the XIX Yerevan International Conference.
Mr Buquicchio highlighted the importance of the reforms based on the European Charter of Local Self-Government as well as the provisions related to organization of elections and constitutional regulation.
He stressed that cooperation with the Venice Commission will continue. He indicated several important provisions which are expected to be included in the concept of constitutional reforms, stressing the importance of increasing the powers of the Constitutional Court and its chairman.
“It is no less important that a representative of the opposition hold the office of the parliament deputy speaker,” Gianni Buquicchio said.
