CC chairman: It is the duty of every state to respect and protect human dignity
The topic of the XIX Yerevan International Conference – “The Constitutional Status of Human Dignity” – was chosen following discussions with the Venice Commission, and in consideration of several factors, Gagik Harutyunyan, chairman of Armenia’s Constitutional Court, said in his opening remarks at the conference.
“The topic is of interest to everyone,” he noted.
“The comparative analysis of constitutions of various countries reveals that the notion of human dignity at the constitutional and legal level is presented as a constitutional principle, source of rights and freedoms and on the other hand, as a right of an individual,” Mr Harutyunyan said.
The CC chairman stressed that it is the primary duty of the government is to respect and protect the human dignity.
