Russia: Nigerian student with suspected Ebola virus contacted 24 foreign students
A Nigerian student hospitalized in Russia's Penza with suspected Ebola virus has been in contact with 24 foreign students, chief doctor of the Penza region center of specialized medical care Sergey Rybalkin said on Tuesday. These students have been put in quarantine, he said, according to Russian news agency TASS.
The African student was taken to hospital on Monday. He arrived in the region on October 17.
The 22-year-old Nigerian student suspected to manifest the symptoms of the Ebola virus has tested negative. However, the hospital will wait for the results of the analyses: they will be ready on October 30, Rybalkin said.
The region’s chief epidemiologist, Valentina Kalinkina, said the condition of the patient had improved.
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), as of October 25, the number of those infected with the Ebola virus exceeded 10,000. Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone are the hardest hit by the deadly virus.
