US State Department calls on all parties to focus on peaceful settlement of Karabakh conflict
“We have continued to convey that it’s important for the sides to take the necessary steps to lay the basis for a peaceful settlement to the Nagorno Karabakh conflict,” Spokesperson Jen Psaki stated at the Daily Press Briefing reffering to the question on the trial of the criminal case filed against Dilgam Asgarov and Shahbaz Guliyev - members of the armed group of Azerbaijanis arrested in early July in Karvachar region of NKR.
Psaki stated that on these specific cases, they don’t have a great deal of information.
“We call on all sides to redouble their efforts at the negotiation table to focus on the benefits that peace will bring to people across the region,” Psaki stated.
On October 27 in Stepanakert, the trial of Dilgam Asgarov and Shahbaz Guliyev started.
According to NKR police, Azerbaijani citizens Shahbaz Guliyev (born 1968), Dilgam Asgerov (born in 1960), and a person whose identity is not determined, illegally crossed the state border of the NKR on 29 June 2014 armed with weapon and ammunition, and entered the Shahumyan region in NKR aimed at implementation of intelligence activities. Moreover, using weapons they stole a citizen of NKR Smbat Mehakovich Tsakanyan on July 4, whose body was found on July 15 in the forest of Karvachar with gunshot wounds. In addition, the person whose identity has not been established, on July 11 in the evening on the Vardenis-Karvachar highway, motivated by ethnic hatred, killed a resident of Yerevan Sargis Abrahamyan (born in 1971), and a resident of the village of Kotayk marz Dzoraghbyur Karine Davtyan received gunshot wounds. The abovementioned person showed resistance during the attempt of his arrest and was neutralized. Shahbaz Guliyev and Dilgam Asgerov are arrested and detained.
