Expert: Turkey prepares for Armenian Genocide centenary
Turkey is preparing for the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide in several aspects: diplomatic, information, and propaganda, Turkish studies expert Gevorg Petrosyan told reporters on Monday.
He noted that the alleged interview of Turkish newspaper Posta with Charles Aznavour and Turkish-Armenian journalist and writer Etyen Mahcupyan’s appointment as a chief advisor to Turkey’s Prime Minister are part of Turkey’s preparations for the Armenian Genocide centenary. In Petrosyan’s words, Turkey tries to show the international community that it has changed and positive changes are taking place in the country.
The expert said that Armenia should not concentrate all its efforts on the international recognition of the Armenian Genocide, but should try to resolve the issue legally. Petrosyan noted that a commission of local and international specialists should be set up to examine the matter from different points of view. It should assess whether it is realistic to file a suit to the international court, and what steps should be done.
