‘US invading Iraq through backdoor’
The deployment of US troops to Iraq to fight the ISIL Takfiri terrorists is a new way to invade the country through the backdoor, a commentator tells Press TV.
Randy Short, political commentator from Washington, said in an interview with Press TV that this is just another “political game,” adding that Washington has no plan other than bringing down the government in Baghdad.
“This is a new way to invade Iraq through the backdoor of alleged diplomacy and peace. It is a standard procedure. They will make a conflict and then they will send soldiers,” Short stated.
The remarks come as President Barack Obama has authorized the deployment of up to 1,500 more American troops to Iraq for what Washington says would be fighting the ISIL militants.
The Pentagon said on November 7 that the soldiers expanded the US mission of “training and advising Iraqi forces.”
The new troops will operate from bases outside the capital, Baghdad, and the northern city of Erbil.
Short said the American troops destroyed Iraq in two different wars, adding that “all the US needs to do is to stop the sales of oil and the financial transactions” of terrorists.
Iraq has faced brutal violence by the ISIL Takfiri terrorist group across the country’s north and west since early June. The ISIL terrorists have threatened all communities, including Shias, Sunnis, Kurds and Christians during their advances in Iraq.
The US-led bombing campaign against ISIL positions in Iraq began on August 8; and since late September, the United States and its Arab allies have been conducting similar strikes inside Syria without any authorization from the government in Damascus or a UN mandate.
