President Serzh Sargsyan of Armenia lands in newly renovated airport of Nagorno- Karabakh capital Stepanakert
President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan arrived in Nagorno-Karabakh Republic earlier today on a working visit. President’s helicopter, as visible in official photos disseminated by President’s Press Service, landed in newly renovated Stepanakert airport of Nagorno-Karabakh capital. Nagorno-Karabakh President Bako Sahakyan welcomed Serzh Sargsyan in the airport.
Together with the President of Nagorno-Karabakh Republic Bako Sahakyan, both Ministers of Defense of two Armenian Republics, as well as other chief officers of armed forces President Serzh Sargsyan will pay visits to some military units of Nagorno-Karabakh Defense Army, and will examine the level of military preparedness of armed forces and ongoing projects of military development.
President Sargsyan will be present at demonstrative trainings of military units.
The visit is within the framework of joint military drills by Armenian and Nagorno- Karabakh armies “Unity 2014.”
Before arriving in Nagorno Karabakh, President Sargsyan visited a military training base located in Gegharkunik region of Armenia, watched a military training with firing operation and awarded honors to those who succeeded in their military service.
On Wednesday November 12 Azerbaijani army units downed Nagorno Karabakh Mi-24 military helicopter, which was conducting training flights in the region close to the Line of Contact, established by 1994 ceasefire agreement. Nagorno Karabakh President’s Spokesperson Davit Babayan released a statement claiming the helicopter did not have military, but training objectives, and was unarmed. The shootdown left three officers on board dead, yet officially unconfirmed.
