Marat Terterov: Processes in Karabakh conflict zone are ‘controlled escalation’
The processes in the zone of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict are a ‘controlled escalation,’ Marat Terterov, political analyst, Director of the European Geopolitical Forum (EGF), said at a press conference on Tuesday, while commenting on the downing of an Artsakh Mi-24 helicopter by Azerbaijan.
He offered his deepest condolences to the families of the helicopter crew.
According to the analyst, it is difficult to predict whether there will be further escalation, but he believes that the incident is a continuation of the events that happened in the summer, when a great number of people died.
Mr Terterov said that the events of this August cannot be called a serious escalation. “I have talked to experts in Moscow and Washington and I can draw a conclusion that the processes in the Karabakh conflict zone are a ‘controlled escalation,’” he said, adding that these processes cannot be compared with the events in Iraq where the situation is absolutely uncontrollable.
“Even the Ukrainian events are not controlled as much as the situation in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict,” he stressed.
