US must review policy on Middle East – analyst
A political commentator says the United States must review its policy of igniting conflicts and waging wars across the Middle East.
Mark Weber, a director of the Institute for Historical Review from California, said in an interview with Press TV that the “continuation of wrong and miscalculated” policies adopted by the US authorities have led to destruction across the region in recent decades.
Touching upon the ongoing violence in Syria, the commentator stated that US President Barack Obama’s wishful thinking “of overthrowing the legitimate government of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad” has caused havoc across the Arab country.
The analyst also suggested that the United States adopt a “sharp change” in its strategy and “embrace a new policy of working with Iran and Syria” in order to achieve peace and stability in the volatile region.
Highlighting Iran’s major role in the Middle East, the commentator stated that it would be much better for the “region, the American people and the whole world” if the US government works with Tehran “honestly and realistically.”
He also referred to the constant gains by the Syrian army against the ISIL terrorist group and said that the Syrian forces are a “decisive factor” in the fight against terrorism.
The ISIL terrorists currently control swaths of territory across Syria and Iraq. They have been committing heinous crimes in the captured areas, including mass executions and beheading of local residents as well as foreign nationals.
A US-led coalition has been conducting airstrikes on ISIL positions in Iraq and Syria, but the air raids have so far failed to dislodge the terrorists.
The United States and its regional allies, including Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey, are reportedly giving financial and military support to the militants.
