Canadian MP: I am concerned about downing of Armenian helicopter by Azerbaijani forces
Arnold Chan, Member of The Canadian Parliament for Scarborough-Agincourt, made a statement expressing his concern about the incident of downing of the NKR Air Force helicopter by the Azerbaijani forces on November 12. The statement is posted on Arnold Chan’s official website.
“I wish to express my serious concern about the recent downing of an Armenian helicopter by Azerbaijani forces. On behalf of the Liberal Party of Canada, I want to express my condolences to the family and friends of the three Armenian crew members who have lost their lives as a result. I am deeply concerned that this incident will escalate tensions between these two countries. While we condemn the shooting of the unarmed helicopter, we urge for calm and support the peace process within the format of the Minsk Group of the OSCE”, announced Chan.
He also noted that a negotiated settlement to this long standing conflict is the best pathway to lasting peace and security.
The Armed Forces of the Nagorno Karabakh Republic carried out a special operation on Saturday at the crash site of the Nagorno Karabakh’s Mi-24 helicopter downed by Azerbaijan on November 12. As a result of the operation, the body of one crew member, the remains of two pilots as well as some parts of the helicopter were removed from the crash site. The Azerbaijani army suffered two losses. The NKR Defense Army had no losses.
A MI-24 helicopter of the NKR Air Force was shot down on November 12 in the airspace in the eastern direction of the Karabakh Azerbaijani border due to a ceasefire violation by the Azerbaijani armed forces. The area where the helicopter was shot down was at a very short distance from the Line of Contact. The enemy opened heavy fire from guns of various calibers at the incident site.
