Armenian Deputy FM: After joining EEU, Armenia will maintain free trade regime with Georgia
During the negotiations on the accession to the Eurasian Economic Union, the Armenian side managed to maintain the free trade regime with Georgia and preferential trade relations with Iran, Armenian Deputy Foreign Minister Shavarsh Kocharyan said during the parliamentary hearings on Armenia's accession to the Eurasian Economic Union Treaty on Monday.
The Standing Committee on Foreign Relations of the Armenian National Assembly jointly with the Standing Committee on Economic Affairs began on Monday hearings on “Armenia's Accession to the Eurasian Economic Union Treaty of May 29, 2014.”
According to Kocharyan, the agreements Armenia had signed before its accession to the Eurasian Economic Union Treaty will not be endangered.
The Armenian official also said that Armenia will become a member of the EEU only after the parliaments of all four countries – Armenia, Russia, Kazakhstan, and Belarus – ratify the Treaty. “But this will happen no sooner than January 1, 2015 as the EEU will officially go into effect at that time,” Mr Kocharyan said.
